How To Land Your Resolution
For many individuals New Year's resolutions are a great way to start and begin a new chapter in life, striving towards ways to self improve in all areas of life. Most people are highly ambitious during the first week of January, naturally driven by the excitement of accomplishing the goals they set out to achieve. This typically ends before it even gets started for many different reasons.
Unfortunately the original surge of energy quickly begin to diminish when it becomes challenging and harder than anticipated, which is why the second Friday in January is known as the unofficial “Quitters Day”. The truth is, many individuals dive into their New Year Resolutions without any structure, support, adhesive or formula and unknowingly set themselves up for failure instead.
Here are 5 tips to help you achieve and land your New Year Resolutions.
Be Specific: One of the biggest mistakes people make when setting their resolutions is being too vague with a goal. Instead of setting an open goal like "losing weight," be specific and set a goal like " Im going to lose 10 pounds in 3 months by eating healthier, exercising or movement activity 3x a week and be more mindful with my everyday routine ." Specificity helps you to create a clear path towards achieving your goal.
Be Realistic: Many people set unrealistic expectations for themselves when it comes to their resolutions. For example, if you've never played guitar, setting a resolution to be able to play “Stairway To heaven” in a few months might not be the most realistic goal. Be honest with yourself and set goals in increments that are achievable within a reasonable timeframe.
Be Accountable: Holding yourself accountable is key when it comes to achieving your resolutions. Find a way to track your progress and share your goals with a friend or family member who can hold you accountable or offer support along the way.
Don't Give Up: Many people give up on their resolutions too soon. Things naturally take time and effort, and setbacks are a natural part of the process. Don't let a setback discourage you from continuing to work towards your goals. Instead, use it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Remember that every day is a new day to reset, and doesn’t mean you have to start from the beginning again.
