The Self Reflection Ritual Of Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur is the sacred holiday of reflection, atonement and renewal in Judaism that invites one to confront their innermost and outermost transgressions. It's a holiday not only reserved for seeking atonement yet also releasing the mind, body, spirit and soul of its burdens, as we seek to secure our place in the Book of Life. This ritual demands a deeply raw honest self-reflection with an unfiltered examination of ourselves.

Acknowledging our flaws and taking responsibility without deflection, gives room to rise to this challenge. It's a solitary journey requiring one to release the weight of past grievances with grace, freeing itself to embrace and begin the embodiment energy of forgiveness. Letting go of our resentments, which often serve as loyal, supportive companions to our wounded selves, is the real sacrifice. This paves the way for inner peace and soul-cleansing transformation.

Sometimes, it's quite difficult to part with the comfort of old emotions that have taken residence within the entire self. It keeps and holds one in a state of spiritual emotional paralysis that prevents a desire to heal, grow and evolve. However, this sacred day and ritual of Yom Kippur teaches that true power comes from atoning and releasing these shadows that dull the beauty of its most authentic heart.

Some might think, feel or believe that by forgiving the other justifies its actions. In truth, by clinging to these past experiences only continues to harms the self more than the original hurt and pain. This past year personally offered me many revelations that forced introspection and growth. I had to take my own reflection of self to heart and begin to amend these shadow grievances that were mine only to clean up.

Choosing to respond with grace and compassion, both towards others and yourself, can become a guiding principle. Experiencing an array of emotions without judgment or control can allow for genuine human elevation and connection. Becoming consciously purposeful and present in the flooding of feelings gives power to making adjustments and navigating one self more carefully.

May we all discover and create a peace within, nurturing our spirit amidst challenges. Let us work to hold sacred space that gives room to respect each other’s differences without judgement or malace and begin restoring the human spirit connection instead. I continue my pursuit of a deeper self awareness, striving daily to become a healthier human being.
